An Egyptian businessman was charged Saturday with “human trafficking” and “sexual assault”, a month after he was arrested on charges that he abused seven girls at an orphanage he founded.

Media and real estate tycoon Mohamed al-Amin was arrested on January 8 and held in custody to investigate allegations that he had “sexually abused children using force”. If found guilty, he could now face up to 25 years in prison.

The matter came to light after a Facebook page accused the owner of the al-Mustaqbal Group – formerly the owner of the CBC television network before being sold in 2018 – of sexually assaulting young girls.

A judiciary source told AFP news agency on Saturday that “witnesses confirmed the testimony of the victims” during the investigation of girls at an orphanage opened by Amin in Beni Suif, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) south of Cairo. is mentioned.

The charges were referred to the prosecutor’s office on 10 December by the government-affiliated National Council for Childhood and Motherhood.

Prosecutors said the victims accused Amin of regularly attacking them “without their consent”.

“He abused his power against orphan girls whom he sexually assaulted and threatened to expel him if they reported him,” she said.

Prosecutors said Amin allegedly took some of the victims to his villa on the north coast, where he attacked them and “asked them to engage in immoral acts”.
