According to officials, the sources of pollution in most of the hotspots are road dust and construction activities. Along the expressway and in Greater Noida (West), traffic is also a major issue, while unpaved areas add to the pollution in UPSIDA areas.
The action plan implemented by the District Magistrate mentions the roles of all the departments involved. “The officers have to report daily. Besides, we have asked them to form quick response teams (QRTs) to punish violators of NGT norms,” said Utsav Sharma, regional officer, UPPCB Noida.
The work points that need to be ensured by October 15 are the formation of QRTs, installation and operation of anti-smog guns at construction sites, all approved mining sites to ensure compliance with dust reduction measures and air pollution control. Industry to ensure that the equipment is operational. Also all the authorities will have to ensure regular deployment of mist sprinklers and regular mechanical cleaning.
Other action points include ensuring that waste material is covered, only approved hot mix plants operate, no unauthorized mining sites operating, advisories issued for traffic hotspots and regulating traffic. Additional manpower is deployed to do this. The officials have also been asked to use polymers for dust suppression as suggested by the CPCB.
DM Suhas LY said, “We will take action to ensure that local pollutants do not aggravate the problem. Officers and departments will be held responsible for non-compliance in their areas. ”
