Eight times more fee for registration renewal of 15-year-old car and heavy vehicles from next April – Times of India

New Delhi: Now it is official. vehicle owner For renewal of a car older than 15 years from April 2022, eight times more will be charged.
Similarly, commercial heavy vehicle owners will have to pay almost eight times more for renewal of fitness certificates of such trucks and buses.
The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways on Monday issued a notification to implement the new system from next year.

However, this will not have any impact on vehicle owners in Delhi and its adjoining areas where diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years are already banned.
As per the notification, renewal of registration of a 15-year old car will cost Rs 5,000 as against the existing fee of Rs 600.

Similarly, the fee for renewal of registration of old bikes will be Rs 1,000 as against the existing fee of Rs 300.
The current rate for obtaining a fitness renewal certificate for a bus or truck above 15 years would be Rs 12,500 as against Rs 1,500.
Any delay in renewal of registration of private vehicles will attract a payment of Rs 300 per month and Rs 500 for commercial vehicles. Similarly, delay in renewal of fitness certificate of commercial vehicles will attract a fine of Rs 50 per day.
The increase in renewal of registration and fitness certificates is aimed at discouraging people from keeping their old vehicles.
In case of private vehicles, the owners will have to get the registration renewed every 5 years after 15 years.
Similarly, renewal of fitness certificate is mandatory every year after the completion of 8 years of a commercial vehicle.
Fees for manual and automatic fitness testing of vehicles have also been specified in the notification. The government aims to do away with the manual system of fitness tests, which can be manipulated or rigged.
The ministry has notified norms for setting up such testing centers as a part of its umbrella voluntary vehicle scrapping scheme.
