Jaipur: Power sector employees and engineers held a symbolic protest on Monday against electricity amendment bill 2022, on the call of All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEFUnion Minister RK Singh introduced the Electricity Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday, which proposes to abolish all subsidies to electricity consumers.
AIPEF claimed that the amendment would end all subsidies to electricity consumers, which would have an impact on common people, especially farmers and Dalits.
Last week the union wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Demanded their intervention and sent the Bill to the Standing Committee.
“Today at the call of the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers, lakhs of power workers and engineers across the country stopped work and demonstrated vigorously,” an AIPEF statement said.
AIPEF President Shailendra Dubey said in a statement that the electricity workers took to the streets, boycotted the work and opposed the bill which has been introduced in the bill. Parliament “In an undemocratic manner with a view to accomplishing the privatization of the energy sector”.
According to the statement, the electricity workers are demanding that the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022 should be withdrawn in its present form and if the government wants to bring it, it should be sent to the Standing Committee so that all the stakeholders, especially the general public People, electricity consumers and electricity employees can get an opportunity to present their views.
