Human-wildlife conflicts are becoming more frequent and widespread as human populations grow and animals lose habitat. In recent times, there has been an increase in the number of wild animal sightings and attacks in and around residential areas. In one such incident, a video shows a boy hitting an elephant with a stick in an attempt to drive it away. The video has taken the internet by storm, with many demanding action against the boy.

The video was shared by Indian Forest Service officer Surendra Mehra on Twitter. Mr Mehra shared the video on Sunday and captioned it, “Just madness…#wildlife #struggle.”

The undated clip shows a young boy hitting Jumbo with a stick as a large herd is seen in the background. He tries to beat the elephant and gets hit by the wild animal as well. In response, the enraged elephant chases the boy but does not attack him. The youth and his friend are seen running from the spot to save themselves.

Since being shared, the video has garnered over 14,000 views and a flurry of angry comments. One user termed the act as ‘sheer madness’, while another wrote, ‘We encroached their forest and planted saplings. Now we are driving them away as if they were the burden of an animal. Why can’t they inform the forest personnel before this suicidal act?” A third said, “After watching this video, it is justified that elephants trample humans with their feet or destroy their houses . We humans are not fit for the earth.

Some even demanded the arrest of such people for cruelty to wild animals, while others suggested that the forest department should find practical solutions to drive elephants away from villages as they destroy crops and damage property. Let’s deliver
