Eliminate drug abuse, say students

De-addiction should be done for a better future. Students and teachers can play a big role in this. There is a need to create awareness among the people about the ill-effects of substance abuse. Cooperation Minister I. Periyasamy said on Thursday that because it is not the individual but the entire society that is affected when a person is addicted to drugs.

Speaking at a program against drug abuse at Thirumalarayapuram Government Higher Secondary School in Srirampuram Nagar Panchayat, he said that a week-long awareness program would be conducted in all the schools and colleges of the district. He took oath against drug abuse and distributed free cycles to 203 students.

Collector S. Viskan, District Superintendent of Police V. Bhaskaran, District Revenue Officer V. Latha and Chief Education Officer A. Nasruddin was present.

Meanwhile, Food and Civil Supplies Minister R. Sakkarapani participated in an awareness campaign at KR Higher Secondary School, Oddanchatram. Palani MLA IP Senthil Kumar and Vedasandoor MLA S Gandhirajan presided over similar programs organized at Palani, Vedasandoor, Natham and Neelakottai.
