Elon Musk’s job cuts affect Twitter India, unaffected employees living in constant fear

New Delhi: For nearly 200-strong Twitter India employees, Friday morning came with total chaos, when they lost access to their official email and internal Slack and group chats after they were unlucky to be part of a global dismissal. The cruelest Elon Musk way.

“We are now awaiting emails with the subject line ‘If your employment is affected, you will receive a notification via your personal email with next steps’, as noted by the company. I am unaware severance payetc,” they lamented.

In Twitter’s Slack and group chat groups, employees have previously complained to their superiors about a lack of internal communication when Musk took over as the new CEO last week.

“This is one of the most inhumane ways to get rid of us. After spending so many years on Twitter India, we are left without any communication since Musk took over,” the affected activists told IANS.

Some employees, who are still with Twitter India, live in constant fear about losing their jobs in the next round, which they think will happen soon, in keeping with Musk’s intentions.

The new CEO aims to cut roughly half of its 7,600-strong workforce, about 3,800 employees.

According to the company, access to employee badges in Twitter’s offices has already been “temporarily” closed.

“To help ensure the security of each employee as well as the Twitter system and customer data, our offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended. On the way, please return home,” Twitter said in an internal memo.
