Mitchell, Blundell take NZ to 318/4 at the end of day one

England came up against familiar foes as Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell put on another display of top-class Test batting to take New Zealand to 318/4 at the end of the first day at Trent Bridge.

England won the toss and called the Kiwi team to bat first

New Zealand openers Latham and Young survived a major part of the morning session before being dismissed by successive deliveries from Ben Stokes and Jimmy Anderson.

Conway and Nichols watch England through lunch. After lunch, the two put up some resistance and formed a strong partnership together. But as soon as both were dismissed, England welcomed Mitchell and Blundell to the crease and they continued to pile up trouble for Ben Stokes and Co.

They both faced 272 deliveries, shared a partnership of 149, and took New Zealand to a total of 318 on the first day. Moving into the second day, New Zealand clearly have the upper hand, and England must be careful not to let the pair get away with the game.

Because if New Zealand manages to score 450-500 tomorrow, it will be a tough fight for England.
