Enjoy Authentic Singaporean Cuisine at Singapore Food Festival in Delhi

If you’re a fan of Hollywood’s smash-hit movie, Crazy Rich Asians, but you’re not a damn rich like me, I’m sure you remember the scene where protagonist Rachel and her boyfriend Nick meet to land in Singapore. After dinner with some friends. I was drooling over the montage of lip-smacking street food prepared at the various hawker stalls, especially as the couple were collecting bowls of Satya and Laksa. Since then, Singaporean cuisine has been on my radar.

I spent an evening indulging in some delicious Singaporean cuisine at one of the participating restaurants- Cafe Delhi Heights. While I was drinking their refreshing Lychee Lime Fizz drink, I was scanning through their festival menu and perplexed to see Vadai, a South Indian snack on the list. But I got a clearer picture when STB’s field director, Mr. Raymond Lim, explained to us that Singapore is an immigrant country, and that the mix of surrounding cultures inspires their cuisine. Singaporean cuisine blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indonesian cuisines to create its own distinct style. The taste will be similar to other Asian food but it has a local twist.

The first item served on the table was chicken satay with crunchy peanut sauce. I could feel the sweet, salty and sour taste from my first bite. Next, I tried Laksa – Rice Noodles with Boiled Egg in Coconut Curry Gravy. The noodle was quite chewy and blended well with the creamy and sweet taste of the gravy. However, what really pleased my palate was the chili prawns. Tender prawns drenched in a sticky and spicy sauce were smacking my lips in pure satisfaction. The Som Tam Salad was given a mild flavor, which makes it a great pairing with spicy chili prawns. Nasi goreng is a must-try dish from the menu, which is stir-fried rice with meat and atop vegetables with eggs. It is served with sweet and spicy chutney.

If you want to taste the goodness of authentic Singaporean cuisine along with some fresh mocktails, be sure to visit before the festivities are over.
