Mangoes are a reminder of our happy childhood—with us innocently groping on slice after slice, and sticky mango juice dripping down our elbows and spilling onto our lips. Just one bite is enough to evoke the sweet memories associated with this bright yellow fruit. If you are a mango lover like us, then you are in for a treat at The Spice Route, The Imperial, New Delhi. Chef Veena Arora has created a special menu named ‘Mamma’s Mango Collection’ and it is invoking nostalgia by introducing a completely new avatar of the taste of mangoes that you can never understand.
One of the most unique restaurants in the city in terms of decor, Spice Route One experiences an aura of immense peace and spiritual healing. The walls are hand painted in natural colours, resembling the interiors of ancient Indian temples. The restaurant is designed to reflect the journey of spices from the Malabar Coast of Kerala to countries such as Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Thus, Spice Route’s special mango menu also includes curries and dishes from these regions.
we started our meal yum mamuang From the Appetizers section of the menu. Like Som Tam, this too was a signature Thai salad with grated raw mango, a spicy dressing and crunchy roasted peanuts. Mango-lovers will really enjoy this Pacha Mangai RasamiKerala-style broth made from lentils and fresh mango. The idea of eating mango in the form of soup proved to be quite innovative. We really enjoyed this refreshing and light broth, which was garnished with chunks of fresh mango, similar to croton.
The main course of the Mango menu featured a range of options from different countries. Alleppey Mangai Curry Was heavenly and comforting with the goodness of coconut milk and fresh vegetables. ga zao hot die There was another amazing preparation we enjoyed – a Vietnamese-style fried treat with plenty of umami with ripe mangoes and cashews.
Pacha Mangai Katrikai Curry Was the ultimate show-stealer. The tangy flavor of raw mango pairs perfectly with baby brinjal in this Kerala-style joy Garnished with curry leaves. We have made our curry chef-special. paired with Jasmine rice Ripe mangoes cooked in coconut milk, along with some flaky Malabari parathas.
In desserts, we had a choice Khao Neo Mamuang – Classic Thai dessert consisting of glutinous rice, served with ripe mango, drizzled with creamy coconut milk and white sesame seeds. Every bite justifies the hype surrounding this wonderful dessert.
With mango being the focus of the menu, we thoroughly enjoyed every dish till the last bite. Despite eating a lot of dishes, the food did not feel heavy at all. So, indulge the mango-loving child in you with these heavenly delights to remember this summer!
