Eric ten Haag explains five rules at Manchester United: report

Manchester United are still awaiting the first signing of this transfer window. Amid a poor showing in the summer transfer window, manager Erik ten Haag has started preparing for the upcoming season with renewed vigor. United began their pre-season training last week. A report published by The Sun claims that the Dutch coach has set five new rules.

It is understood that the players have been asked to play only further. If someone passes by the side or behind, he is suppressed. Apart from passing, Ten Hag also wants fitness of the highest order in the team.

Manchester United reportedly faced discontent in the dressing room last season. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire were reportedly at the center of the in-fighting. It is believed that Ten Hag now wants the team to stay united and has made it absolutely necessary for the players to eat and spend time together after the training session.

Big names and past achievements don’t matter much in team selection. The former Ajax manager wants a football player’s performance in the training session to be the only criterion for selection. Ten Haag has also informed that young players will get ample opportunities to prove their worth and take the place of senior footballers.

“A lot of attention has been paid to one- and two-touch passing drills where players must try to move forward. If they often go sideways or backwards it stops play and allows the player to stop for a minute or two.” is removed,” a source was quoted as saying by The Sun.

“This is just the beginning, but the players are tuned in. When he speaks, everyone – absolutely everyone – listens. The training sessions have been tough but they are entertaining too,” the source said.

Last season, Manchester United could somehow manage to finish the Premier League in sixth place with 58 points.

The Old Trafford-based team will take on Liverpool in a friendly match in Thailand on 12 July. Manchester United will begin their Premier League campaign against Brighton and Hove Albion on 7 August.
