After successfully leading India’s Under-19 team to their fifth World Cup title, Yash Dhul first emerged as a promising young batsman IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

In the high-bid war of the cash-rich league, the young batsman was picked up by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs. 50 lakhs. Yash, who had registered in the IPL for a base price of Rs 20 lakh, also drew a good interest from Punjab Kings (PBKS) but was eventually absorbed by his home side.

In an exclusive conversation with India TV Digital, Yash Dhul’s father- Vijay reveals how his son got picked up by the Delhi franchise.

The 19-year-old’s selection in the Delhi squad came as no surprise to Vijay and the star cricketer’s father revealed that since Yash was training at the Delhi Capitals’ academy in Bal Bhavan (Dwarka) since 2014-15, this was the reason for the success. There was a strong possibility that DC would include him in their squad.

“When you register for the auction and as a player when you are going under the hammer, it is not your choice, and it is beyond your control which side will pick you. But kudos already Bal Bhavan is associated with the Delhi Capitals Academy, Dwarka for a long time, where he had practiced for the last seven-eight years, we already expected him to be picked up by the Delhi Capitals,” Yash’s father said. .

The father of the U-19 World Cup winning captain said that as budding players, youngsters should be picked by their local sides as it motivates them and provides them with the mental comfort of being with the home team.

“Also, I think if local boys get to play and represent their state-based franchises in the IPL, it motivates them a lot, and at the same time they are in a relatively comfortable home outfit. Even if you look at other young boys, they are picked up by their local teams only. Yash was happy to be picked by DC,” Vijay Dhul said.

The Delhi player’s father insisted that the U-19 players’ first IPL season will not only provide them with a platform to play cricket but also provide a great opportunity to learn, interact and share the dressing room with eminent Indian and international players. He feels that this learning will prepare these youths holistically.

“I think these youngsters have not achieved that maturity yet and they feel that sharing the dressing room with the world’s top players in the IPL will make them the best. Will make a habit of jamming the who and who of the cash-rich league,” he said.
