Explosion heard at military plant in Iran’s central city of Isfahan

A loud explosion was heard at a military plant in Iran’s central city of Isfahan, but a security official said there were no casualties, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB said on its website early Sunday.

“The explosion occurred at one of the ammunition manufacturing centers of the Ministry of Defense and there were no casualties, according to the announcement of Isfahan’s deputy governor for security,” IRIB reported.

The official, Mohammad Reza Jannesar, later told state television: “The damage is being investigated as well as the causes and elements that led to the explosion and will be announced later.”

The explosions have at times raised concern amid tensions over Iran’s nuclear program with Israel and the United States.

Israel has long been threatening military action Iran If indirect talks between Washington and Tehran fail to save the 2015 nuclear deal.
