Carlos Sainz finished third with defending champion Max Verstappen in fourth. Lando Norris was fifth fastest in Q1. Despite a relaxation on the track limit, Sergio Perez could not improve his time enough to make it into Q3. Lando Norris finished fourth ahead of Alpine drivers Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton could only finish P7, followed by Valtteri Bottas in eighth and Daniel Ricciardo in ninth.
