Jehan Daruwalla, the only Indian driver on the F2 grid, claimed a podium finish in the sprint race at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Indian driver led the race for a large part but the second safety restart allowed ART Grand Prix driver Frederic Vesti to take the lead and claim his first win in the championship. The race began with Jake Hughes qualifying in pole position with Daruwalla in eighth place. But the Prema Powerteam racer made a strong start and made the most of it to take the lead on the opening lap.

Vesti was quick to pass Hughes on the second lap on Daruvala’s tail, but Prema was unable to shake the driver off the top spot, taking a 1.5s lead. However, Jahan fell victim to several race restarts, which helped hold the grid. The first restart occurred after Jehan’s teammate Dennis Hauger ended up in the wall, locking up and prompting the safety car on lap 13.

The race resumed on lap 17 with Daruvala still ahead. However, the second race began almost immediately after the restart when Enzo Fittipaldi and Jury Vips approached Turn 2. The race resumed again on lap 19, but this time Daruwalla allowed second-placed Vesti to take the lead soon after the restart. Inside Turn 1.

Daruvala fought hard to take the top spot as Prema Driver came close, but Vesti did well and crossed the checkered flag with a 0.300s advantage. Nevertheless, Daruwalla opposed Liam Lawson, who made several attempts to move to second place but Carlin Driver was ultimately forced to finish third. The action now moves to Sunday’s feature race in Baku, with the race starting on a reverse grid.
