‘Fab Four’: Still different but shoulder to shoulder for Rani – Times of India

London: Princess William And To trouble and their wives Catherine And Meghan – once called the “Fab Four” – walked together behind Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin on Monday, just as the royal brothers did for their mother, Princess Diana, 25 years ago.
But with all the memoirs told by Harry over the next year and lines about alleged military uniforms and titles for his and Meghan’s children, the couple appeared to be as distant as ever.
The brothers performed their duty by walking shoulder to shoulder behind their father king. Charles III and other senior members of the royal family were carried as their grandmother’s coffin Westminster Abbey,
William wore a military uniform. Harry, who has been banned from doing so since giving up his life as a working royal, wore a morning suit on which rested his medals.
As the coffin was placed in the abbey, Harry rolled his eyes as other family members in military uniform saluted.
William told mourners last week that walking past his grandmother’s coffin on Wednesday brought back memories of his mother’s funeral procession at the age of 15.
But if that painful shared experience was on their mind, there was no outward acknowledgment of it.
At the entrance of the abbey, the siblings, once so close that they could complete each other’s sentences, were accompanied by their wives, the eldest two children of William and Catherine, Prince George, nine, and Princess Charlotte, Seven attended.
Catherine, who was recently named Princess of Wales, like William’s mother Diana before her, wore a black ensemble with a wide-brimmed hat and her long hair swept into a low bun.
She added a triple-string pearl choker and drop earrings that were part of the Queen’s personal jewelery collection.
Meghan wore a black cape and dress and wide-brimmed hat.
The four, who were seen as the future of the monarchy, made no eye contact until they fell out as they proceeded down the aisle behind the coffin and sat apart.
William and his family sat at the front with his father and his siblings Anne, Andrew and Edward.
Harry and Meghan, known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sat second in row with their cousin Princess Beatrice, directly behind the King and Queen’s wife.
There was speculation that Harry would be allowed to wear his uniform for the funeral when he appeared wearing the uniform of the Blues and Royals Cavalry Regiment in which he served in a vigil near the Queen’s coffin on Saturday evening.
She appeared to be the latest olive branch given to him and Meghan by the king.
Harry made two visits to Afghanistan with the British military but strict protocols reserve military attire for the royal family on such occasions.
That has left Harry in a difficult position since relinquishing his royal duties to move to North America in 2020.
In an interview with talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey, Meghan accused a member of the royal family of being racist.
She also accused Kate of crying and of refusing to help palace officials when she committed suicide.
The cold relationship between the two couples is a far cry from the days when they were called the “Fab Four” by the British media.
The public’s hopes of an end to the disastrous rift also rose two days after the Queen’s death, when the couple appeared for an impromptu walk outside Windsor Castle.
Sources told the Daily Mail, however, that there has been “no meaningful reconciliation” so far.
