Fact Check: Kovind, Murmu did not perform ‘Vedic rituals’ before becoming President, viral picture is old

India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) found that the claim was misleading. This picture was taken in Jharkhand’s Deoghar in 2020, when Kovind was on an official visit. Draupadi Murmu was the then Governor of Jharkhand.

We could not find any news reports about Kovind attending the ceremony of Murmu taking over. So, we did a reverse search of the photo on Google.

This gave us some news about Kovind offering prayers at Baba Baidyanath Temple in Deoghar, Jharkhand since February 2020.
