Fadnavis said, Maha will amend the NDPS Act to make it more strict

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said Maharashtra will amend the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and make abetment a serious offense to make it more stringent. He was speaking in the Legislative Council.

Stating that the menace of psychotropic drugs is spreading like cancer, Fadnavis, who is also the home minister, said that the government plans to run a massive awareness program against drugs.

He said that the NDPS Act requires anyone to possess or consume drugs in commercial quantities, so that it can be treated as an offence. We have decided to bring state amendments to the NDPS Act and it will not be limited to consumption and possession. Abetment to an offense shall also be treated as a serious offence. Fadnavis said this will ensure that loopholes in the NDPS Act are not misused.
