Farmer Violence: Waves Feel In Delhi-NCR | Noida News – Times of India

GHAZIABAD/NOIDA: A day after the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which eight people died, it was felt at the UP Gate, one of the main protest sites for farmers, on Monday, as police stormed out of the capital. A part of the carriageway was closed for oncoming traffic. There has been a traffic jam on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

“We had to stop it from 7 am as a precaution. It was picked up around 4 pm,” said Ramanand Kushwaha, sp traffic, Ghaziabad.
There was heavy traffic on the main roads, especially near Gaur Chowk in Indirapuram, the canal road leading to Ghazipur and towards Vaishali. Kushwaha said that in Kaushambi also the traffic was slow but there was no jam. Delhi Police had issued an advisory for the traffic going to Ghaziabad, which was diverted from Anand Vihar.

However, the protest site at the UP Gate looked deserted. Less than 100 protesters were present, but a large number of police personnel were deployed as the Ghaziabad police did not want to take any chances. Heavy police force was also present at the collectorate, where local BKU leaders along with some opposition leaders demanded action against those involved in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. After a long commotion, the policemen calmed down and let them in.
“We wanted to tell the government that we stand with the farmers. We have submitted a memorandum of demands Rajveer Singh, District Vice President of BKU who led the protesters. He said the group was “satisfied” with the government’s response.
In Noida too, farmer leaders led by BKU-political spokesperson Pawan Khatana reached the collectorate early on Monday. Sitting on tractors, they raised slogans against the state government and alleged that it was trying to break the farmers’ movement with bullets. “Whoever is doing mischief, there should be an inquiry against him,” Khatana said. After this the farmers submitted a memorandum to ADM (Administration) Diwakar Singh.
Additional DCP (Greater Noida) Vishal Pandey said that the GB Nagar police have deployed PAC companies around the collectorate, while security has been beefed up in the areas bordering Delhi and Ghaziabad. Additional DCP (Central Noida) Ankur Agarwal said around 50 SP workers were detained for trying to block a road and later released.
Meanwhile, prolonged jams were also reported on DND Flyway during peak hours amid heavy checking of vehicles by Delhi Police. Several travelers said the barricades were “unnecessary”. Brajesh Sharma, who is traveling from Noida to Delhi, said it has become a regular feature of “harassment to the public”. DCP (Traffic) Ganesh Saha said he spoke to his Delhi counterparts after receiving complaints about the disturbances.
