Farmers can withdraw their protest after more than a year: Sources

Farmers’ unions are likely to call off their protests, more than a year after the central government launched their agitation against three agricultural laws at various borders around the national capital.

Sources told News18 that the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) will take a final call on the move, which comes after the central government sent a written draft to a five-member committee of SKM about the issues raised by the farmers’ protests.

Sources said that there is a consensus among the SKM leaders on the letter they have received from the central government. News18 has learned that they are drafting some changes in the proposal given by the central government.

More information will be given in the press conference by SKM, the umbrella organization of all farmer unions. There will also be another SKM meeting in the next 3 to 4 days, in which the specifics will be discussed.

The SKM had last month constituted a five-member committee to deliberate with the government on pending demands, including legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP).
