Farmers at the Singhu border expressed happiness and prepared to return to their homes after withdrawing their protest against agricultural laws, after farmers received a formal letter from the Center on Thursday agreeing to their pending demands.

Speaking to ANI, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Punjab executive member Manpreet Singh said, “We have won this battle after a year’s struggle of protest. We are happy that the central government is working to fulfill our pending demands. Agreed. We are packing here and will return to our homes on December 11 at 9 am.”

Large parts of the Singhu border protest site were lying vacant as many farmers bundled up their belongings and went home on tractors, while others laboriously worked long hours to dismantle the housing last year. Tractors decorated with colorful lights came out of the protest site singing the song of victory. The elders waved colorful turbans and danced fiercely with the children.

Ladders, tarpaulins, poles and ropes were strewn across the once buzzing protest site, while blankets, pillows, mattresses and chairs stood neatly by the side of the road.

Farmers who have been protesting three agriculture laws at different borders of Delhi since November 26 last year, announced on Wednesday that they were suspending their year-long agitation and would vacate the protest sites on December 11.

Addressing a press conference, farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni said, “We have decided to suspend our agitation. We will hold a review meeting on January 15. If the government does not fulfill its promises, we will resume our agitation. can start with.”

Another farmer leader Darshan Pal Singh said, “The protesting farmers will vacate the protest site on December 11.”

Earlier on November 29, on the first day of the winter session of Parliament, both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha had passed the Agricultural Laws Repeal Bill.

Delhi Police will remove barricades at farmers’ protest sites in a phased manner

Delhi Police will remove multiple layers of barricades at the protest sites of the three farmers in a phased manner, depending on the movement of the protesters, who will start returning home from December 11.

“Based on the movement of a large number of farmers, several types of barricades, including cement jerseys, will be removed simultaneously.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Bijendra Kumar Yadav said, “Police will also start de-barricading in a processed manner.”

According to the Delhi Police, security has been tightened at the protest sites to keep an eye on the movement of farmers. Officials said that the temporary structure built to house the police personnel will also be removed eventually.

Transport system is fine for the return of farmers: Haryana Police

Haryana Police has made elaborate arrangements to ensure hassle free movement of traffic on the National Highways in the State.

A Haryana Police spokesperson said on Friday that the District Superintendents of Police have been directed to ensure proper traffic, security and law and order to ensure smooth flow of traffic in all districts between Delhi and Ambala, Bahadurgarh and Hisar/Jind. Huh.

“It is expected that farmers from Kundli and Tikri borders will go back to various destinations in Punjab passing through the districts of Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Jind, Hansi, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa. The group that will become one big convoy.
