Both sides had their fair share of chances throughout the game, with FC Goa coming close to scoring twice in the first 15 minutes.

In the eighth minute, Sadaoui’s cross from a free-kick in the attacking half was met by a huge header by Fares Arnaut. But the Syrian keeper’s effort hit the wrong side of the post and came back into play, and was eventually cleared by the Gokulam Kerala defence.

Gvarotxena then gave another chance in the 13th minute. However, the Spaniard headed the ball past the goal as the scoreline remained 0–0.

The Malabarians almost got a breakthrough in the 17th minute through Farshad Noor. The Afghan midfielder beat the opposition goalkeeper to hit the back of the net, but the referee blew his whistle for offside.

After the change of sides, the hosts had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the game. Julian Omar Ramos bowls a brilliant delivery for Sourav. The forward’s effort across goal was just inches from both, going over the far post, and through the legs of an attacking Samuel Cooney, who himself netted in despair.

The Gaurs went ahead and enjoyed some good play in the second half. Makan Winkle Chothe took possession of the ball on the right edge and went for glory, but Gokulam goalkeeper Shibinraj Kunniyil did well to stop his shot and made another save from savior Gama’s effort.

In the 55th minute the home side put the ball in the back of the net, this time through Sreekuttan VS. But the referee once again rightly called offside as there was no change in the scoreline.

In the end, when the game seemed headed for a goalless stalemate, Guarotxena broke the deadlock for FC Goa.
