FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week: Top 5 things to look forward to this season

Lights, Sound, Runway… FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week 2022 is back in the bay and the powerhouse of fashion and beauty has a lot up its ‘innovative’ sleeves. The coming together of two strong entities in the fashion world only means that this season is about to get bigger and better.

After the first physical edition held in Delhi in March 2022, the City of Dreams will see an exciting chapter held on Jio’s iconic, new landmark destination of Mumbai. World Convention Center from October 12 to 16.

Anamika Khanna’s AK-OK will be the opening showcase of Fashion Week.

In keeping with the spirit of collaboration between FDCI and Lakme Fashion Week, the five days of fashion will be celebrated with showcases and collaborations with powerhouse designers, brand partners and the industry’s best talent. The event will start with a grand opening show by fashion designer Anamika Khanna on 11th October and end with the best of beauty and fashion presented by Lakme Absolute Grand Finale on 16th October.

Every season the renowned fashion designers of the country rule the runway with their creations. The season-fluid runway will showcase by leading and renowned designers including Shahab Durazi, who is returning to the runway after 12 years, Geisha Designs by Abraham and Thakor, Anand Kabra, Gaurang, Paras and Shalini, Nachiket Barve, Not So Serious By Pallavi by Mohan, Payal Singhal, Pawan Sachdeva, Satya Paul, Shantanu and Nikhil, Shyamal and Bhumika, Reena Dhaka.

Similarly, renowned and leading designer brands from across the country will be showcasing their collections on the runway, among them Ayesha Rao, Abhishek Sharma, Anushree Reddy, Diksha Khanna, Isha Amin, Guapa, Limerick, Abir N’ Nanaki, Misru, among others. SVA by Nikita Mhaisalkar, Nikita – Maina Designs, Nirmoha, Sanjukta Dutta, Studio Medium, Sonam and Paras Modi, Swati Kapoor and Varun Nidhika.

With an aim to provide a platform to talented designers across the fashion spectrum in India, the platform will see a range of new and emerging talent. The platform’s exclusive talent hunt programs such as INIFD GenNext featuring works by Aseem Kapoor and Pooja Halder (Aseem Kapoor), Ativ Anand (Re-), Soumya Goyal (Somya Goyal), Arshana Raj (Stoic) and Ankur Verma (TIL) and INIFD Huh. Launchpad and Nexa present The Spotlight x Bloony. FDCI will present Pearl Academy X Graduate Fashion Week International and will also present Khanijo, Countrymade and Son of a Noble SNOB as part of the Emerging Talent Showcase.

Collaborating with like-minded brands who understand fashion and design is a win-win situation. Fashion Week over the years has seen many innovative collaborations that have made their mark. This season too, many long lasting partners are Nexa x Gaurav Gupta, Lakme Salon x Samant Chauhan, Tencel™ x Anju Modi, R|Elan™ x Gauri & Nainika, Reality x Amit Agarwal and Logitech x Saaksha & Kinni. Also, this season Gujarat Titans, the Tata IPL Champions for the 2022 season, will bring a dynamic streetwear collection to their fan base designed by renowned designer Kanika Goyal.

The platforms pledge to go carbon neutral by 2025. Fashion week is incomplete without Sustainable Fashion Day. Events for Sustainable Fashion Day include a showcase by TENCEL™ x Anju Modi, Eka, and Pikes – the winners of R|Elan™ present the Circular Design Challenge in India in partnership with the United Nations. Rise Worldwide and the British Council of India Will present an engaging discussion on fashion, climate and the role of women driven by Aditi Meyer.

The platform will offer two showcase areas (runway and atelier) for designers and continue to champion sustainability, inclusivity and diversity through cutting-edge innovations and environmentally conscious initiatives.
