FedEx begins EV testing in India

FedEx Corp. A subsidiary of FedEx Express has announced the commencement of electric vehicle (EV) testing in India as part of its global goal of achieving carbon neutral operations by 2040.

The trial, which is expected to conclude in a month in Bengaluru, will test vehicle technology within the company’s operations, assessing the operational effectiveness of vehicles on a standard route loaded with packages, FedEx Express said. On the positive results, the company said that it will expand the tests in Delhi.

Mohammed Sayegh, VP of India Operations, FedEx Express, said, “With the growth of e-commerce in India, we are constantly on the lookout for ways to support this momentum while minimizing the environmental impact. The launch of the EV trial gives us this opportunity. One step closer to the vision.”

The company is approaching the vehicle electrification target in a phased manner to replace the existing vehicles. It aims to have EVs accounting for 50% of the company’s global pickup and delivery vehicle purchases by 2025, rising to 100% by 2030. “Testing is an important part of the integration of EV technology across all of our operations. Finding the right technology to serve our business, our customers and our team members will play a key role in successful integration of EVs into the fleet,” said Mr. Sayegh. said.
