Railway Bonus: Diwali has come early for lakhs of Indian Railways employees as the Center on Wednesday announced a bonus of 78 days for them. Modi cabinet approved payment of productivity linked bonus equal to 78 days to railway employees for the financial year 2021-22. The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs 17,951 for 78 days.

About 11.27 lakh non-gazetted railway employees have been paid the amount of PLB.
“Payment of PLB will act as an incentive and will result in large number of railway employees, especially those involved in the execution and operation of railways, to improve their productivity and ensure safety, speed and service to railway customers.” The payment of PLB will also boost the demand economy in the upcoming festive season, a government statement said.
The above amount has been paid to various categories including Track Maintainers, Drivers & Guards, Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Controllers, Pointsmen, Ministerial Staff and other Group ‘C’ Staff.
The financial implication has been estimated to be Rs 1,832.09 crore. A statement from the government said that the above decision for payment of PLB has been taken despite the adverse financial position due to the challenges of COVID.
It said that the actual number of PLB days paid is more than the days fixed on the basis of defined formulae.
The payment of PLB acts as an incentive to motivate the Railway employees to work towards improving the performance of the Railways.
