Festival to showcase Northeast India in Thailand, Andrea Kevichusa to walk the ramp

The three-day festival in Thailand from July 29 will showcase the Northeast India and explore shared history through a range of discussions, exhibitions, buyer-seller meetings, and song, dance, and fashion events.

The second edition of the North East India Festival is being held in Bangkok to celebrate the 75th year of India’s diplomatic relations with Thailand. The first edition was held in February 2019.

Bollywood actress Andrea Kevichusa (of “Many” fame), besides stars from the Northeast, will walk the ramp for Northeast clothing by renowned Thai actors Anuradha Coolie, Robert Norem, Priyanka Lama, Mami, Vidyut and Rakesh from the region’s designers. , Iba Mallai, Kivitoli Chishi, Meghani Das and Daisy Momin. Top music bands from the Northeast such as Soulmate, David Angoo & Tribe, Zubeen Garg & Band, Tetseo Sisters, and Tafma will take the stage. Thailand’s famous rock band STAMP is also scheduled to perform.

Delectable delicacies from the Northeast will be another highlight of the festival. Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organizer of the festival, said that representatives of northeastern states and about 30 MSME entrepreneurs will showcase the products of the region with a special focus on tea, crafts, agro-horticulture products and tourism.

“The festival is an attempt to create a market for the products of the Northeast, to promote tourism, especially with focus on Tai tourism circuit and to create contact between people and academics,” Mahant told PTI.

“We are trying to follow the Act East vision of our prime minister to connect the two regions,” he said.

With a focus on the Tai culture of the Northeast, a large team from the Tai Khamti and Tai Ahom communities will present their history, heritage and culture and interact with leading Thai scholars and historians. “The festivities are proposed to focus on Tai tourism circuit in Upper Assam, Tai Ahom historical monuments, Tai Phake village and Tai Khamti areas of Arunachal Pradesh,” Mahanta said.

The festivities will begin on July 29 with the inaugural session at the Centara Grand Hotel in Bangkok, which will be hosted by the Indian Embassy.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Arunachal Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Mizoram Tourism Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Assam Minister Urkhao Gwara Brahma besides senior Indian officials and in the session Top industrialists and influencers from Thailand and Thailand are expected to be present.

In keeping with the vision of Act East Policy, a series of B2B meetings will be held to promote bilateral trade.

The Business Meet on Tourism will be attended by leading tour operators from Thailand who will interact with tourism departments of the northeastern states and operators in the region.

Mahant said that the buyer-seller interaction would be aimed at promoting markets for Northeast products.
