FIFA has lifted the suspension imposed on the All India Football Federation, and it means that the country will host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup later this year. Football’s world governing body had earlier banned the AIFF citing third party interference. FIFA, however, said that India needs to meet more conditions to ensure that the federation is not suspended again. Two important moves cited by FIFA include amending the AIFF constitution in accordance with the requirements of FIFA and the AFC and giving voting rights only to state associations. The Supreme Court had earlier removed voting rights given to 36 eminent sportspersons and confirmed that only state association representatives would constitute the electoral college and elect the next AIFF president.
