FIFA has suspended the Indian Football Federation with “immediate effect due to undue influence of third parties”, jeopardizing the conduct of the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in October. World football’s governing body called the breach a “serious breach of FIFA law”. FIFA said in a statement that the suspension would remain in force until the All India Football Federation (AIFF) regains full control over its day-to-day affairs. The AIFF is in disarray and is run by administrators after former chief Praful Patel remained in office beyond his term without fresh elections, which were struck down by courts as invalid.
