Ahead of the Indian National Hockey Team’s opening match at the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and many other icons wished the hosts good luck before they face off against Spain.

The sports fraternity stood united in their wishes for the Indian hockey team as they prepare to launch their challenge for the sport’s most coveted trophy.

Together India Odisha hosting the World Cup, an added home advantage and a good factor that the Manpreet Singh-led unit will be able to go beyond the bronze medal they won at the 2022 Tokyo Olympics.

Kohli urged the Indian side to enjoy themselves as they will have the support of the entire country.

Sachin also wished Manpreet Singh’s team all the best for their World Cup campaign.

Gambhir also took to social media and penned an emotional post for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Sunil Chhetri also wished the Indian boys all the best for their upcoming challenge.

The Indian side is trying to replicate their heroics from 1975 when they last won the World Cup.

It’s been a wait of 48 years, and while Indian hockey has seen its fair share of ups and downs, there has been a steady rise in the performances of the men in blue in recent years.

The hosts have been placed in Group D alongside Spain, Wales and Great Britain, although their first match against the Red Sticks could be a tough one.

India is ranked sixth in the FIH rankings, while Spain is eighth, both the countries have crossed swords 4 times in the year 2022, with the Spaniards winning twice, while Manpreet’s team won once.
