Over 4 crore ITRs have been e-filed for the last financial year, with around 8.7 lakh returns filed on December 21 alone, the IT department said on Wednesday.
With the last date for filing FY’21 Income Tax Return (ITR) for individual taxpayers being December 31, e-filing has increased and 46.77 lakh returns have been filed in the last seven days.
The government has come up with several offers to expedite ITR filing. One such scheme is being introduced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
CSC expects 25 lakh people to file income tax returns for the financial year 2020-21 through its more than 75,000 centers across the country.
Under this offer, village level entrepreneurs or VLEs have been asked to file 1000 Income Tax Returns i.e. ITR by December 31, 2021.
CSC announced on Twitter that whoever VLEs achieve this goal, the lucky winners will get a chance to win a Royal Enfield Bullet.
According to CSC, VLEs can also win commission 1 Lac.
The department said it expects 25 lakh people to file income tax returns for the financial year 2020-21 through its over 75,000 centers across the country.
CSCs have geared up to provide the service of filing Income Tax Returns to around 75,000 centers mainly in urban and semi-urban areas.
Citizens can visit CSC with their PAN card, Aadhaar, residential address proof, source of income details and bank account number for return e-filing.
Once the details are uploaded by the Village Level Entrepreneur (VLE) managing the CSC, the citizen receives calls from companies asking for additional details. After submission of complete details, ITR is filed and e-verified within 3-7 days. The citizen then receives the acknowledgment of the ITR and the calculation on the mail.
