The central government has sanctioned more than 40 lakhs but has less than 32 lakhs employees. The government has been trying to fill these vacancies for years, but with no success.

Major ministries and departments including Posts, Defense (Civil), Railways and Revenue have maximum vacancies. As per the details of News18, against the sanctioned posts of around 15 lakh in Railways, around 2.3 lakh posts are vacant in the Ministry of Railways. In the Defense (Civil) Department, there are about 2.5 lakh vacancies against the sanctioned strength of about 6.33 lakh employees. The Department of Posts has around 90,000 vacancies against a total sanctioned strength of 2.67 lakh employees, while in the Revenue Department, there are around 74,000 vacancies against a total sanctioned strength of 1.78 lakh employees.

A senior government official explained to News18 that due to acute shortage of staff, work of some departments is getting affected and new recruitment has slowed down due to retirement and even the sanctioned number of employees in the ministries has increased over the years. has grown.
