The Finance Ministry has suggested the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection to conduct Clerical Recruitment Examination for Public Sector Banks (PSBs) in 13 regional languages along with English and Hindi. The decision is based on the recommendation of a committee that was constituted by the ministry to look into the matter of conducting examinations for clerical cadre in PSBs in regional languages, an official statement said.
The ongoing process of conducting the examination initiated by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) was put on hold till the recommendations of the committee were made available. It added that going forward, clerical recruitments for 12 PSBs and vacancies advertised from now on, both preliminary and main examinations will be conducted in 13 regional languages.
The committee worked with the objective of providing an equal opportunity to the local youth for employment opportunities and having an upper hand with the clients through local/regional languages. “This decision to conduct clerical examination in regional languages will also be applicable to SBI vacancies in future. The ongoing recruitment process of SBI against the vacancies already advertised and for which the Preliminary Examination was conducted will be completed as per the advertisement.
The Finance Ministry had in July directed IBPS to conduct examinations for clerical cadre in PSBs. There has been a demand especially from the southern states to include regional languages for conducting Bank Clerk Cadre Examination. There are 22 languages recognized by the Constitution of India.
The Finance Minister had assured Parliament in July 2019 that the recruitment test for employment in Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) would be conducted in regional languages other than English and Hindi. With a view to provide equal opportunities to the local youth to avail employment opportunities, the government decided in 2019 to conduct examinations in 13 regional languages, including Konkani and Kannada, for the recruitment of Office Assistant and Officer Scale I in RRBs. Will go Apart from Hindi and English. Since then examinations are also being conducted for these recruitments in regional languages.
