Fire breaks out again in Goa, brought under control

A month after a fire broke out on a hillock in South Goa district, a senior official said on April 10 that forests were destroyed at several places in the coastal state, including the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary.

A forest department official said a fire broke out on Sunday night at Korpa Dongor, a hillock near Canacona town in South Goa, which was brought under control on Monday morning.

The fire could be seen from the Canacona-Margao highway, located 8 km away.

“Suddenly fire was seen rising from the hill, following which fire and emergency services were informed,” the official said.

“The work to douse the fire started immediately and it continued till Monday morning,” he added.

The fire has been brought under control, but not completely extinguished, the official said.

Investigation was on to ascertain the cause of the fire.

last month, The fire broke out on March 4 and destroyed the forests at various places in Mhadei, Netravali and Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuaries.

The Indian Navy and Air Force helped in extinguishing the fire.
