Gunmen attack Turkish Football Federation headquarters in Istanbul

The attackers opened fire on the headquarters of the Turkish Football Federation on Thursday as the board met inside, officials said, adding that no one was injured in the attack.

Announcing the news during a regular briefing with reporters, ruling party spokesman Omar Selic said he had spoken to TFF chief Mehmet Buyuksi on the phone and wished him well.

Turkish news reports said seven bullets hit the building during the federation’s board meeting on the outskirts of Istanbul.

One of them blew the whistle on the head of former national team player and current board member Hamit Altyntop, while others ransacked the federation’s president’s office.

According to Turkish media, the attackers fled in a waiting vehicle before security forces could arrive.

There was no immediate comment from TFF.

“Police will reveal all the details later,” Selick said.

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya announced the launch of a “massive investigation”.

Officials said police are already examining security camera footage of the attack.

“I strongly condemn the armed attack on the Turkish Football Federation’s administrative building,” Yerlikaya said.
