Fisherman Virvel was injured when Indian Navy personnel fired warning shots at his fishing boat in the Pak Gulf
The Marine Police of Vedaranyam near Nagapattinam has registered a case against unknown personnel of the Indian Navy. To fire a ‘warning shot’ on a fishing boat In the Pak Gulf, due to which a fisherman from Vanagiri in Mayiladuthurai district suffered injuries on Friday.
Acting on a complaint by Selvakumar, one of the fishermen aboard the fishing boat, the police booked the naval personnel under sections 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons) and 307 Is. Section 27(1) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27(1) of the Arms Act.
Veervel (30) of the injured fisherman is undergoing treatment at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. His condition is said to be stable. A naval ship, which was patrolling Park Bay, fired warning shots at a fishing boat after sighting a ‘suspect’ boat in the early hours of Friday.
