Flash food kills dozens in Afghanistan, Pakistan – Times of India

Islamabad: Heavy floods due to seasonal rains in the east Afghanistan and the neighboring part of Pakistan Dozens of people died overnight, according to local officials on Sunday.

Abdullah Mufakar, the head of the province’s Natural Disaster Response Authority, said it was still unknown how many people were killed and injured by the rising waters but at least nine people died.
“At present the exact number is not clear and people have gone to retrieve the bodies,” he said.
Del Agha, a village elder, said the flood was unprecedented in the history of happiness. “It destroyed all the people’s animals, homes and agricultural land,” he said. “People are homeless, they have been forced to take refuge in the mountains.”
In neighboring Pakistan, at least 36 people have died in floods triggered by monsoon rains in neighboring Pakistan, according to the country’s Natural Disaster Management Authority. Rescue workers backed by the army have rescued thousands of stranded people, while more rain is expected in Pakistan this week.
The monsoon season runs from July to September.
Last week, heavy rains triggered flash floods that killed at least 31 people and left dozens missing in northern Afghanistan.
