Flipkart: Why Flipkart said “we messed up” on International Women’s Day – Times of India

As for Unverse, the e-commerce website recently sent out messages in which it mainly focused on deals on kitchen appliances.
“Dear Customer, This Women’s Day, Let’s Celebrate You. Get Kitchen Appliances Starting At Rs.299 [sic]”Read the message.
However, the particular message did not go down well with a section of people. Many slammed the company for being “sexist”.

One social media user tweeted, “Hey @Flipkart do you think the kitchen is where women should be? #PityOnFlipkart #Flipkart.”
“Bravo, Flipkart! Bravo for such stereotypical and sexist offers. Hundreds of women are fighting stereotypes and here you are, giving discounts on kitchen appliances. Are women only for the kitchen?” Another user wrote on Twitter.
After being called out, Flipkart apologized for hurting the sentiments of the people.
In its apology tweet, Flipkart said, “We messed up and we’re sorry. We had no intention of hurting anyone’s sentiments and apologizing for the Women’s Day message.”

Every year 8 March is celebrated as International Women’s Day across the world. For 2022, the theme given by the United Nations is “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”, which aims to recognize women who are working to build a more sustainable future.
