Eating on the go has become a part of our daily routine. In the midst of our hectic lives, we prefer those foods or preparations that can be eaten off from one place to another. Wraps, rolls, burritos and so on are some of the options that are complete meals in themselves and can be had without a proper dining table setup. However, one of the major drawbacks of eating wraps is that the filling often slips out of them as soon as we take a bite. A group of engineering students at Johns Hopkins University has discovered a simple solution to this problem – an edible tape.

A team of chemical and biomolecular engineering students at Johns Hopkins University have created this edible ‘tasty tape’ to provide relief from this universal issue. The tape can be used to seal the wrap or burrito and keep the filling from falling out when you cut. Even the small piece of tape is completely safe for consumption according to the team. according to his officer WebsiteIt is, basically, “an edible adhesive consisting of a food-grade fibrous scaffold and an organic adhesive.”
They tested a wide range of ingredients to create a combination that would suit its purpose of being safe to eat and still have some adhesive strength. “First, we learned about the science surrounding tape And different adhesives, and then we worked to find edible equivalents,” said Tyler Guarino, who worked on the project with fellow students Mary Eric, Rachel Nee, and Erin Walsh.

How do you use edible tape on a daily basis? The team says they have prototype strips of half an inch by two inches, fixed on a sheet of waxed paper. All you need to do is remove a strip from the sheet, add some water to it and stick it in your wrap or burrito of choice.
While the tape is clear in color, the team added a blue dye to illustrate its use. They are applying for a patent and thus could not disclose the material used to make them Food tape. “What I can say is that all of its ingredients are safe to consume, are food grade, and are a common food and dietary additive,” Guarino said.
Take a look at how Twitter users reacted to the invention:
