Football World Cup impact: Bangladesh PM calls for direct diplomatic ties with Argentina

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated on December 19, 2022 Argentina football team on winning the FIFA World Cup and proposed that both countries should open embassies in each other’s capitals.

“I have observed with pleasure that the affection and love for football, especially the Argentine football team, deeply connects our two peoples. The people of Bangladesh through the spontaneous celebration of your national football team winning the World Cup football championship Have shown our appreciation and love,” said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Suggesting setting up of missions in each other’s countries, Ms. Hasina said, “This unprecedented love and affection between our two peoples has paved the way for a solid bilateral relationship.”

Argentina is a member of the G-20 and Bangladesh will attend the upcoming G-20 meeting in New Delhi as a “guest country” which may provide an opportunity for more bilateral discussions between the two sides.

They hoped to further strengthen ties by opening missions in each other’s capital in the coming days.
