The program resides within Michigan Central, a new mobility innovation district being developed by Ford. It is the second of two studios to open as part of a partnership announced in 2020 between NewLab and Michigan Central.
As the US seeks to invest in infrastructure and build a more sustainable, energy-efficient economy, electrification of transportation is critical. In its first year, Mobility Studio will help companies develop a range of transformational services and technologies to encourage more widespread commercial adoption of electric vehicles. NewLab and Ford selected Autofleet, EVPassport, Fermata Energy, Rhombus Energy Solutions and SparkCharge from a competitive pool of global applicants to participate in the first group of mobility studios to help address key challenges facing the fleet, as they consider the transition to electric vehicles, such as connected fleet management, assistive drivers at home, versatile charging hubs and vehicle-to-everything applications.
Mobility Studio announced an open call for companies developing Frontier technologies and novel products to apply to participate in the first group. In the coming months, member companies will work closely with NewLab, Ford and industry stakeholders to deploy technologies and services that help make electric vehicle commercial fleets economically and logistically viable – a growing consensus underscore that rapidly electrifying transportation means building a clean, resilient energy future. .
