Ford backs out for a second time: Won’t make EVs in India – Times of India

American automaker after exiting the Indian market in September 2021 Wade has now announced that it will not manufacture any electric vehicles Global in India export, The employees at the Chennai plant were reportedly informed on May 12.

Ford India was among the companies that were selected under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) benefit scheme of the Government of India. This created possibilities for Ford to produce EVs in India for domestic sales as well as exports.
After exiting the Indian market in 2021, Ford continued to explore alternative opportunities for its existing manufacturing facilities in India. As part of this effort, the company had applied for conditions under the PLI scheme to manufacture electric vehicles and sell them from a single plant to global markets. However, no changes to Ford’s short sales presence in India have been announced yet. After exiting September 2021, the company continued to sell its high-end global models such as the Mustang and Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs through the CKD and CBU routes. Owners of models such as Figo, EcoSport, Aspire, Freestyle and Endeavor can expect continued parts support from Ford Service Depots in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Sanand and Kolkata.
