Former BJP leader Fagu Chauhan appointed as new Governor of Meghalaya

Fagu Chauhan was the Governor of Bihar and is a former BJP leader and a six-time MLA from Uttar Pradesh

Days before the Meghalaya Assembly elections, President Draupadi Murmu appointed Bihar Governor Fagu Chauhan as the new Governor of the state. Only 15 days are left for the elections to be held in the state on February 27.

Chouhan is a former BJP leader and a six-time MLA from Uttar Pradesh. He was an active politician before becoming the Governor.

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Chouhan contested from Ghosi as a BJP candidate and defeated close BSP candidate Abbas Ansari. In fact, he won the seat six times, representing different parties.

His son Ram Vilas Chauhan is also an active politician and BJP MLA from Madhuban seat. The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Brigadier Dr BD Mishra (Retd), who held the additional charge of Meghalaya, has now been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
