Bangalore:

JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday alleged that a former Congress chief minister, who wants to continue in the post in future also, is trying to woo the leaders of his party, especially from the old Mysore region.

Though Kumaraswamy did not want to name the Congress leader, it seems to be directed at former Chief Minister and now Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah. There has been no response from him or the Congress so far.

“Yesterday a MLA friend of mine came and discussed with me, that a senior Congress leader who wants to become Chief Minister and was also Chief Minister in the past, called him twelve times and asked what he has decided (on joining Congress),” Saying that JD(S) has no future,” Mr Kumaraswamy said.

But the MLA directly replied that he was in JD(S) because of his good relations with Kumaraswamy and not for any position and politics, he told reporters.

Mr Kumaraswamy said the MLA also showed him the details of the number of calls the Congress leader had received and said that despite making his stand clear, the leader kept calling him repeatedly. “I know there are constant attempts to brainwash the JD(S) leaders who have a hold over their constituencies, but it will be ineffective,” he said.

There is speculation in JD(S) circles that some of its sitting MLAs and leaders may join other parties ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections.

JD(S) MLA from Chamundeshwari constituency GT Deve Gowda and Gubbi MLA SR Srinivas have given enough signs of joining the Congress in the coming days.

Mr. Kumaraswamy, who did not want to name the Congress leader, when reporters asked him, “Why should I mention the name? He is a Congress leader. I don’t want to talk about anyone. They have been trying for the last three years.” I am aware of it.”

“Let them (Congress) take whatever they want. I am not worried because my party workers are with me,” he said. , was in a “pathetic condition to woo JD(S) leaders”.

Responding to a question, Mr Kumaraswamy said that it was not a case of an MLA, several leaders of his party have been contacted.

“It is their (Congress leaders’) goal and desire to eliminate JD(S) by the next assembly elections, but it will not be fulfilled,” he said, adding that efforts to woo regional party leaders were more in the old Mysore region. .

The Congress and the JD(S) are traditional rivals in the old Mysore region.

The JD(S) has already announced “Mission 123” (by winning 123 seats in the 224-member assembly) to bring the party to power independently after the 2023 assembly elections.
