Former Cricketer Ravi Shastri’s iconic Audi 100 Super Car gets completely restored by Club Garage

Ravi Shastri’s coveted Audi 100, which he won at the Benson and Hedges World Championship of Cricket in Australia in 1985, was fully propped up by industrialist Gautam Singhania Super Car Club Garage (SCCG).

Ravi Shastri, the former Indian cricketer and former head coach of the India national cricket team, today took delivery of his fully used Audi 100 luxury sedan. The car was restored by Super Car Club Garage (SCCG) which is operated by Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of Raymond Group. SCCG says that after several visits to the garage the car came in very poor condition to them, who were unable to repair the car because they could not purchase parts. It took SCCG about 8 months to put this car back together, while the start to end process was almost a year. Finally today Singhania handed it over to Ravi Shastri.

Shastri also narrated how Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, waived off all taxes so that he could import cars into India.

Expressing happiness on receiving the car in perfectly restored condition, Ravi Shastri said, “It looks like the car I had won 37 years ago. Same, nothing has changed. Gautam and Super Car Salute to club garages for doing this job the way they have. Incredible!… you know what it does, jogs of it make your memory go back 37 years to the day when the keys in my hand given what was happening? what i did ? All those memories go back to jogging.”

Shastri also talked about how Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, waived off all taxes so that he could import cars into India, which he otherwise could not afford due to high taxation. In fact, Shastri has repeatedly said that it is not his car, but the car of the India national cricket team and the car of India, and he has repeated the same words to this day. it was also one of the first Audi was to be imported into India. SCCG had to go through old part auction sites in different countries and brokers and scrap yards to source the required parts

Talking about the restoration process, Gautam Singhania said, “When the car came in it was not working at all. We took the car out completely, and then rebuilt it from scratch piece by piece. Painstakingly, we had to find a lot of original parts.. a door panel here, a dashboard there, as this is a 37 year old discontinued model and it was a bit of a challenge. It took less than a year, but painstakingly close to the garage With efforts we were able to do it.”

SCCG said that because Singhania was very clear that he would not use any replica parts, the task became even more challenging. In fact, only a limited number of Audi 100s have survived over the years, and SCCG had to go through vintage part auction sites in various countries and source the parts needed through brokers and scrap yards.

The Audi 100’s cabin is also back to its original condition with fabric seat covers

“Different pieces and pieces were bought, collected and shipped from all over the world. The bodywork painting had already started, the original color code was also obtained from the manufacturer so that we could get the original color shade that the car This was when the car was introduced in 1985. All electrical work has been done at the SCCG including the engine, wiring, air conditioning and power windows,” the restoration unit said in its statement.
