Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday said it is “wrong” to say that he is raising questions on the 2019 Pulwama terror attack only after leaving office.

His remarks came in response to a question on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement that he is “making allegations after being separated from us”.

“It is wrong to say that I raised this issue when I was out of power,” he told reporters in Rajasthan’s Sikar. He said that he had picked it up on the day of the attack.

In February 2019, 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in a terrorist attack on a convoy of security vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama.

Malik, who was the then governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has recently alleged intelligence failures and the central government’s denial of planes for movement of security personnel.

To a question about the allegation that Malik’s recent summons by the CBI was linked to his criticism of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi And his government, Home Minister Shah said that such an allegation is not correct as he was called earlier also by the probe agency.

He said, ‘I can say with full confidence that the BJP has not done anything that needs to be hidden. If someone is making allegations after being separated from us, then media and people should assess him accordingly.

Responding to a question, Malik said Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is a “serious candidate” for the prime minister’s post and “if it is his destiny, he will become”.

When asked about BJP’s chances in the Lok Sabha elections next year, he said, “I wish them well, but in politics and elections no one knows what will happen.” The current situation is difficult for them, they have to do some things.” Malik claimed that Prime Minister Modi’s silence on the Adani issue would harm him. He said that the Prime Minister should also speak on the Pulwama issue.

In the context of Rajasthan where assembly elections are due later this year, Malik said if the BJP projects Vasundhara Raje as its chief ministerial candidate, her chances of winning will increase.
