Former panchayat president murdered near Aruppukottai

niece’s husband murdered in family dispute

Aruppukottai, 45, former chairperson of Udayanampatti panchayat, was murdered by her relatives in Tiruchuli on the night of March 13 over a family dispute.

Police have arrested the main accused M. Murthy of Udayanampatti and two others in this connection.

Police said Mr Murthy and his wife Soleimani, who were employed as nurses in Erode district, were living separately for the past six months due to differences.

Ms. Soleimani’s aunt Rakkamal was helping her niece which irritated Mr. Murthy.

Sri Murthy suspected that Rakkamal was after him leaving his wife and had aversion to her.

On the evening of March 12, Mr. Murthy and his family members went to Rakkamal’s house and they assaulted him indiscriminately.

The women suffered multiple injuries and were taken to the government hospital in Tiruchuli.

However, he was declared ‘brought dead’.

Tiruchuli police have arrested Sri Murthy, his mother, Lakshmi and his brother Selvam in this connection.

Police are also looking for Murthy’s father and another brother.

Rakmal’s body was handed over to the family after the postmortem.
