Former Punjab minister arrested in corruption case, months of warning of CM Mann’s action

A month after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann warned of action against senior Congress leader Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, on Tuesday, Dharamsot was arrested in a corruption case.

Dharamsot was a former Minister of Forest and Social Welfare Department in the cabinet of former CM Captain Amarinder Singh.

The development comes as part of the Mann government’s move to crack down heavily on the state’s Punjab.

Dharamsot has been arrested along with Kamaljit Singh, a local journalist who was allegedly working as his close aide, Hindustan Times reported. Both have been arrested on corruption charges.

The Vigilance Bureau said the authorities had collected Dharamsot’s evidence last week after they made two arrests – Gurnampreet Singh, a divisional forest officer, and Harminder Singh Hammi, a man accused of allegedly paying a hefty bribe to Dharamsot through journalist Kamaljeet. has been accused of.

Earlier, during Captain Amarinder’s tenure as CM, the sadhu was given a clean chit after an IAS officer Kripa Shankar Saroj made allegations in the scholarship scam.

This time the officials gathered enough evidence in the corruption case, the report said.

Last week, the Vigilance Bureau arrested the DFO of Mohali on charges of corruption. He told the officials how Dharamsot was bribed before cutting a single tree.

A week after Dharamsot’s arrest, CM Mann appointed ADGP Virinder Kumar as Chief Director of Vigilance Bureau in place of IPS officer Ishwar Singh.

When Amarinder Singh was the chief minister, Virinder was the state’s intelligence chief and had prepared a dossier of corruption of MLAs and ministers. However, the Congress government did not take action, the report said. However, Mann is working on the same proof.
