The decision was announced by NCP chief Sharad Pawar after an all-party meeting of opposition parties in New Delhi.
“There are 17 parties involved for this unanimous decision. Our collective view is that Alva will file the nomination of the Vice President on Tuesday,” Pawar said.
“It is a privilege and an honor to be nominated as the candidate of the United Opposition for the post of vice president Of India,” Alva tweeted.

Alva, 80, will file her nomination papers on Tuesday, July 19, which is the last date for filing nominations for the August 6 elections.

“We are trying to contact Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal. Last time they supported our joint presidential candidate,” Pawar said.
