Former Vice Chancellor of Anna University asked for a copy of the investigation report

Former vice-chancellor of Anna University, MK Surappa on Monday requested the Madras High Court to submit to him a copy of the report of Justice P Kalairasan, a one-member commission set up last year to probe various allegations. Surappa’s counsel told Justice V Parthiban that if a copy of the report is given to him, he is also ready to withdraw his writ petition challenging the constitution of the commission.

Giving Advocate General R Shanmugasundaram time till Monday (January 10) to ascertain whether a copy of the report could be provided to Surappa, Justice Parthiban adjourned the matter till that day. The Commission of Inquiry, headed by Justice P Kalairasan (a retired High Court judge) was constituted in November 2020 by the then AIADMK government to probe allegations of bribery, corruption, misconduct, financial irregularities and irregular appointments against Surappa. ,

Aggrieved by this, Surappa had filed the present petition dismissing all the allegations against him. He claimed that he has done major development works in the interest of the premier technical university since assuming office in April 2018. Their opposition to the state government’s decision to clear all engineering students without conducting due exams due to Covid-19 and their efforts to get Institute of Eminence (IoE) status for the university triggered a conflict. Was.

He also said that he had refused to part with university funds to buy decorative items in the offices of the then Higher Education Minister and Secretary. He had said that it all ended in quelling the anger of the previous government. In February last year, Justice S Vaidyanathan restrained the government from taking any action against Surappa. Later the commission submitted its report to the state government.
