Four arrested for throwing Molotov cocktail at police party

Puduchatram police on Wednesday arrested four persons for throwing Molotov cocktails at a police team while stealing scrap from an abandoned petroleum refinery in Periyakuppam.

Identification of those arrested. as Jagadeesan; R. Vijay, 25; P. Nurgunam, 50; and K. Prabhakaran, 22.

A police team reached Nagarjuna Oil Corporation Limited (NOCL) after hearing about the presence of the gang in the area. On seeing the police, the gang members including the four threw six Molotov cocktails at them and fled. Three devices exploded near the team. However, no one was injured.

After the incident, a special team conducted a search at Periyakuppam and nabbed the four. He was produced in a local court and was taken on remand.

Cases against him under Indian Penal Code sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 451 (trespass in house to commit offense punishable with imprisonment), 427 (causing harm) and 384 were recorded.
